Sycamore Landing hike - This hike and discussion will highlight our changing season’s spring peepers as well as the concept of Blue Mind - how being in, on, and around water reduces our stress and anxiety. Hosted by Blackstone River Watershed Council/Friends of the Blackstone.
Stay after our hike for our poetry event!
“River as Muse: Connecting to the river with poetry and letters.” - April is National Poetry Month. Rivers have served as inspiration for many nature and environmental poets. Local nature poet, Patti McAlpine, will facilitate participants of the Blue Mind walk to use their observations and reflections of the river and compose a letter or poem to the river. It could be a poem of gratitude for all the river gives or a letter of apology for the abuse the river has received from human use. McAlpine will use prompts and examples from nature poets like Mary Oliver, Emily Dickinson and former Rhode Island State Poet Laureate, Lisa Starr (whose poem is highlighted in "Blue Mind").
This will follow the Blue Mind Walk.
Participants are encouraged to bring a small notebook and pencil.
